Wood in the weather, before summer

Wood that lives outside here spends the winter wet and the summer in the sun. When the heat arrives, the wear shows up right when you want to use the deck. Looking earlier avoids finding a loose board on the first long weekend.

Walk slowly. Look for boards that move, nails that stick up, dark edges, and spots where water sits in a puddle. A step that sounds hollow deserves more attention than faded color.
